Photo shop edits on six of my most successful photo's
I chose to edit six of my favourite and successful photo's. In each photo i tried to use different techniques, in order to experiment and gather more knowledge on photo shop. In photo (1) i layered two images to create one. Before i done so, i had one photo of a bridge (contemporary) and in the background the eye (contemporary). In order to improve i layered people walking on some stairs, this is my 'traditional' part of the photo, as humans have been around longer than, for example, modern objects and architecture like the eye. I adjusted the contrast and brightness of the photo and also the opacity, to brighten up the under layer. In photo (2) i layered two images of the same stairs, but on opposite sides. My aim was to show a visually interesting contrast with the same object (acting as contemporary), with one of the photo's showing people walking (traditional). I also noticed the London eye in one of the photo's, which i hoped to show once my photo's had been layered. However, this was not successful as the background of the photo was too light and completely hidden by the darker contrast of the above layered photo. I decided to turn the photo black and white because where I'd layered the photo a vivid blue line ran down the middle, most probably from the edge of the stairs. I tried to overcome it by decreasing the contrast, specifically around the area, so not to effect the whole photo. However this failed, but black and white took the vivid line out. In the third photo (3) I 'lassoed' around St. Paul's Cathedral to specifically increase the contrast to bring out and define the edges and detail of the building. As the original photo shows, St Paul's was very bright and lacked definition. I also decreased the brightness of the photo, because it was very flat and needed more of a darker tone to emphasise the different lines and shadows. I wanted to show, with the use of layers, how new architecture is constantly being built around very old architecture. This shows a difference and how time has changed. It could also be debated that the modern art spoils the view and symbolism of such traditional architecture. The fourth photo (4) was the most enjoyable to edit, because of the different focuses of the image. For example, i 'lassooed' around the globe and increased the contrast to really bring out the colour and help to show what's happening in the reflection. I also wanted this to be the main focus point in the photo. As for the background i decreased the saturation, I did not want the photo to be black and white because the photo divides too much against the strong contrast in the globe. So I stopped decreasing the saturation on -88%. In this photo I wanted to show the contrast between old and new. The person is contemporary, against an older looking wall. The person (not staged) was posing for another photo and i captured him looking frightened or cautious of the contemporary globe, as if to imply that it's threatening. Inside the reflection you can see an arrange of different age buildings, adding to the traditional, contemporary theme.
